BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo Sabres' President Ted Black and General Manager Tim Murray addressed the media Sunday afternoon to discuss the sudden resignation of Hockey Operations Director Pat LaFontaine on Saturday night.
Asked whether LaFontaine was fired or quit, a topic of widespread interest in social media forums, Black said, "Pat resigned and I can't address the twitterverse and speculation."
Murray added: "We were on the same page," and he thanked LaFontaine for giving him his first job as a GM in the National Hockey League.
Black said the organization had no intention of naming a new director of hockey operations, which had been LaFontaine's role with the team. GM Tim Murray will head up the hockey side of the operation, he said.
Murray told reporters that the team wants to keep Ted Nolan on as head coach. "I just want people who want to be here to be here," Murray said, adding that negotiations with Nolan were ongoing.
