WILSON, NY - Residents of the Niagara County Village of Wilson are getting ready to decide whether or not to get rid of the village entirely.

They went to an informational meeting Thursday night ahead of next Tuesday's vote.

Supporters say it will save residents on taxes, though some are worried about a loss of services.

The mayor is asking citizens to keep in mind what they heard at the meeting, but also do their own independent research before voting.

"There are a lot of websites," said Mayor Bernie Leiker. "You can go on the department of state and look at other communities that have gone through the process and see what has happened with them … what kind of savings have they seen."

The state gave the village $50,000 to help develop a dissolution plan.
