HAMBURG, N.Y.- Another school on the Catholic diocese of Buffalo closure list is formally asking Buffalo Bishop Richard Malone to re-consider.
School leaders at St Mary of the Lake in Hamburg met with members of the parish Monday night to keep them up-to-date on the process and answer any questions.
Both school leaders and parish members feel strongly that they're a viable school and that they met all the criteria the diocese had asked for.
"I was stunned. I was involved in the meetings, the cluster meetings, and I saw what the diocese was looking for. And we met all the criteria so when the decision was made we were all very surprised and immediately thought, let's see what we can do to ask the Bishop to reconsider," said School Advisory Board member Don Busha.
School leaders say Saint Mary of the Lake has been the number one ranked middle school in the Southtowns the past two years, and that their building and grounds can accommodate any expansion.
They filed their formal petition last Friday and are awaiting a response.
