AMHERST, N.Y.- A representative from Congressman Brian Higgins' office confirmed to 2 on Your Side that the Social Security office in Amherst is set to close.

According to Higgins' office the Amherst Social Security office has seen a 69% cut in staffing over the last 20 years, the largest number of staffing cuts among the 20 Western New York regional offices.

There is no word yet on the impact this move will have on the local workforce as the Buffalo office on Exchange Street will still remain open.

The representative from Higgins' office said they are very concerned about the impact this will have on people in the Northtowns who receive social security.
