BUFFALO, NY-- A 13-year-old boy has been charged with murder in connection to the death of another 13-year-old boy.

The teen was was arraigned in Buffalo City Court Tuesday morning. He is charged with the murder of Ameer al Shammari who's family was holding his funeral at the same time his alleged killer was in court.

The suspect, now identified as Jean Sanchez, has been charged as an adult, and is currently being held without bail. He could face nine years to life in prison if convicted.

Police says Sanchez, a student at Bilingual Academy #33, lived on Germain street, one street away from his alleged victim.

Ameer, who was first reported missing on Friday, was found dead Saturday at the abandoned and overgrown former Tee to Green golf facility on Amherst Street near Churchill Street.

Police are still investigating. No motive, or cause of death, has been released at this time.

"Numerous tips from the public lead us to make an arrest so quickly," Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda told reporters at a Tuesday afternoon news conference. "The suspect last (Monday) night did make admissions to homicide detectives, as has been reported we believe the murder was over a cell phone , but at this time the investigation continues and I really can't release any other details," Derenda said.

Derenda would not say whether police are seeking additional suspects in connection wiht the case.

Mayor Byron Brown continued to express support on behalf of the city to the victim's family. "We must lift them up in prayer," Brown said.
